Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

Services for Women of Childbearing Age:

Deciding whether to parent, having a baby, or grappling with infertility, pregnancy loss, or adoption decisions are significant events in your life as a woman. Too often in this culture, the development that is taking place for you as an adult human being is ignored. Your body will likely receive thorough care, but your emotions and your experience may be left out of the mix. Your reactions to medical interventions, the changes in your identity, and your experience of your changing body may not be concerns your medical providers ask you about, but they are important considerations in the person you are and the person you are becoming.

What you’re going through psychologically at this time in your life is every bit as important as what you’re going through physically. If you are pregnant, your experience of stress or anxiety can actually affect processes such as labor, birth, and your developing relationship with your new baby. If you are struggling with infertility or pregnancy loss, the grief and medical trauma you may be experiencing can interfere with other aspects of your life, such as your relationships and your productivity at work.

Seeking therapy when you’re having a baby, grieving a loss, or making decisions about adding to your family through adoption can help you work through the hard parts and find peace and joy in the life you are building. Therapy can help you manage the changes in your relationship with your partner, and can support you in this time of transition.

I am passionate about working with women around issues of motherhood. I am very familiar with medical literature related to pregnancy and birth and with the psychological concerns that accompany infertility, pregnancy loss, and the adoption process.

For most of human history, women have relied on the support of other women during their childbearing years. Although we are often more isolated in this culture, the need for connection and support from other women is as important as ever. I look forward to offering some of that support.

Services for College Students:

If you are in college, this is a vital time in your life. You are working on not only your coursework, but also on a more fundamental process of becoming you. Being away from your parents, exploring the kind of life you want to live, experiencing adult friendships and relationships, and making decisions about how you want your life to go are all exciting ventures. They’re also sometimes scary, lonely, or sad. You’re likely to face some dramatic changes in these few years from the way you were living before you went to college.

Therapy can be a wonderful resource for you at this time. I love working with college students, and will support you as you work through all the challenges of finding your way in the world as a young adult. I’ll help you accept your mistakes and disappointments and will encourage you to advocate for yourself in ways that help you feel happy and at home in the world.

I look forward to learning about the life you’re building now and to supporting you in becoming the person you most want to be.

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT):

The Emotional Freedom Technique, or EFT, is an energy practice combining the ancient principles of Chinese acupressure with modern psychology. There are no needles used. Instead, important meridian points are stimulated by tapping lightly with your fingertips in the course of more traditional therapy sessions, releasing painful emotions and quickly restoring a sense of peace and balance. EFT is well-researched and is recognized by the American Psychological Association as an effective treatment strategy. It can help with such concerns as anxiety, depression, eating and body image problems, limiting beliefs, trauma, weight loss, and chronic pain. You can begin using it at home after your first EFT session. I am certified as a Master Practitioner in Energy EFT and as a Positive EFT practitioner, and use energy methods with children, adolescents, and adults.
